Television viewing is no longer dominated by one sport. With almost every sport has its own shows and programs. Some popular sports are football, baseball, basketball, hockey, tennis, golf, soccer, NASCAR, and soccer (football and soccer refer to ‘North and South American’ and ‘South and Central American’, respectively). Some shows center around certain sports, but all kinds of television channels broadcast sports throughout the world. A sport is often considered the ‘action sport’ of a competition. A sport is generally defined by physical contact between competitors where there is an obvious element of competition. A sport can be divided into several categories: athletic competition, competitive gaming, physical activity/fitness show, racing, gymnastics, contact sports, competition or contest of skill, team sport, etc. A sport can also incorporate other elements such as religion, society, nationality, or some kind of political affiliation.

A sport is usually defined by a set of sporting events in which the competitors exercise an inherent physical power or a physical ability, but not in any way where the competition is of bingo or lotto format. A sport is often based on some kind of competition or sporting prowess, like climbing a height, swimming a marathon, playing volleyball, basketball, tennis, or football. In most sports, the competitors compete with others to achieve a particular goal or objective. The object of the sport can also take the form of an athletic competition, competitive gaming, physical activity/fitness show, competitive gymnastics, or team sport.

Physical exertion is involved in sporting activities such as running, jumping, striking, throwing, competing, and serving. Sports that involve physical exertion include contact sports, team sports, gymnastics, athletics, and sport activities that use repetitive movements, such as ice climbing or diving. Some sports require a lot of speed, agility, balance, and strength, while others are less demanding in these aspects. Sports that incorporate an element of athleticism, such as cycling, running, skiing, sport diving, swimming, football, basketball, tennis, or weightlifting, require exertion of all of these areas.
