E-classroom and winner in the 2010 Staples Youth Social Entrepreneur competition

Mohammed Barry, of the Republic of the Gambia, has a truly inspiring story of leadership and perseverance. Currently residing in South Africa, he is the Anchor of E-classroom, a writer, an HIV treatment advocate and lives openly with HIV for 13 years.

In the past, he co-founded the Gambian Treatment Action Group, Aid for Smiles and served in a series of HIV related Boards both nationally and internationally.

At the moment, he is much engaged in enhancing the leadership role of young people living with HIV in the AIDS response in Africa using new technology and peer based approach.

E-classroom is a fee free peer to peer based distant learning and mentorship venture that uses social media to create social change hence, reaching out to over 10,000 young people age 16-26 across 33 countries globally through online courses, peer-based mentorship, and seed granting opportunities.

The project offers a wide range of courses including leadership, entrepreneurship, HIV and AIDS, climate change, human rights, sexual and reproductive health, and human rights etc. To learn more about Mohammed, check out his TEDxYSE talk.
